Having been a musician for over 24 years, I have always kept an open mind about exposing myself to every kind of music. In my early years, if I hadn't heard a particular style music, then I would make an attempt to check out the albumn from the library. Now my research has exploded with the Net, Borders and such... Having to arrange music for a Contemporary Christian church, I've really had to rely upon my extensive listening habits to introduce virtually every kind of style into the music I arrange or compose for our services. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by the most highly creative and arts focused Christians imaginable. So, thus, my advice. listen to everything. As is the case with a musician in any context, you need to be as broad as possible without losing sight of your personal musical vision. You never know where you'll be or what may be expected of you. Listen to everything. Though my personal preference, personal study, and individual style is based in jazz and jazz fusion, and my influences certainly reflect that listed below, be assured that I listen to just about everything in order to remain well-rounded. I couldn't possibly list everything here. SCOTT
